The Smurf Movie The Storyline The Smurf Movie is set in the Middle Ages where Gargamel (The wicked wizard and enemy of the Smurfs) and his cat, Azrael, discover the hidden village of the Smurfs. Gargamel and Azrael chase the Smurfs into the woods and they get lost, whereupon Clumsy Smurf wanders into the forbidden grotto where a magical portal opens up and transports the Smurfs to the present day in Central Park, New York. The Smurfs get into loads of different adventures as they try to avoid Gargamel & Azrael a and to find their way back home. About The Smurf Movie Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation have obtained the rights to the film and filming began in March, 2010 in New York. The release date for the film is anticipated to be in late July / early August of 2011. The Smurf Movie will be in 3-D CGI movie - so get ready with your Smurf glasses to see the Smurfs in 3 Dimensions. There are plans for this to be the first of 3 Smurf Movies, but I guess this totally depends on the success of the first.
